At Unlockt, our goal has always been to help children living with ADHD achieve real, sustainable results that not only positively impact their life, but their entire family's.

Meet Michelle Owens, an Unlockt parent whose daughter has graduated from our program.

Q: Thanks so much for joining us today! Tell us a little bit about yourself! What brought you to Unlockt?

I’m Michelle Owens! My daughter got a diagnosis for ADHD. She was struggling in school, with friendships, relationships, and I heard about the program on social media! So, I signed up and had my first consultation with Eva, and from there it was a no-brainer!

Q: How would you describe your initial consultation with Eva and Unlockt?

First thing that comes to mind is non-judgmental, for sure. Like home, honestly, like talking to your friend. She had great insight. I didn't even have to finish sentences; she knew what I was talking about, and she heard me. We weren’t labeling or limiting her, she made it clear that we’re pulling on her strengths and exploring how we can help her grow in those strengths. It was very much talking to someone who was a real person, not just a program.

Q: What are some of the biggest changes you’ve noticed in your daughter since starting the program?

She can actually feel herself getting frustrated–she gets overwhelmed very easily–even with her friends. Now, she can feel when that’s coming. She knows how to pull herself back and knows her power-ups and power-downs, different things that help her take a step back and be calm and work through it. Being around other kids who are really similar and being able to help, she thrives on that. As far as school, she doesn’t need to be pulled out of class for reading anymore, and she’s improved a grade level in math!

Q: How has Unlockt and your daughter’s ADHD diagnosis impacted you as a parent? Do you have any advice for people in your shoes?

A big thing that helped me was the Parent Coaching. Eva, and I always clicked, and she never judged me for feeling like I was losing my mind. She always understood and gave me tools, like checklists tailored to my daughter. For me, that really helped because I’m not constantly feeling like I’m nagging her. Now, we can enjoy true mother-daughter time, like getting ready in the morning. For me to understand that her brain doesn’t necessarily work like my brain, and I need to give her grace and meet her where she is, made a huge difference.

Q: What was the most surprising thing about Unlockt?

The nutritional piece of things! We have overhauled my house, how we do desserts–we found that my daughter cannot have any red dye. Now she can pinpoint when she is exposed to it, looks at ingredient labels, and advocate for herself because she sees the impact it has on her. Because of the program, we also found out that one of her eyes was overworking, making it more difficult for her to focus. We got her classes to help with that.

Q: What would you say to someone considering signing their child up for Unlockt?

It’s an investment, but this is your child’s life, and these tools will help them be successful for the rest of their life. From the outside, my daughter was crawling in her own skin. If there was anything I could do to make that better, I was going to go hell or high water to give it to her. You will have the support you need to get through this time of your life.

And we'll be there every step of the way.
